Support Organisations

GMPT works with a number of support organisations for all of its employees. This page provides a brief guide to some of them.

Association of Black Probation Officers (ABPO)

ABPO is a support group at national level for Black Probation Service Officers and Probation Officers. It plays an active part nationally in professional issues and there is a well attended Manchester branch

LAGIP (Lesbians, Gay Men, Bisexuals and Transgendered Individuals in Probation and Family Courts)

LAGIP provides a formal and informal national support network to LGB&T probation and CAFCASS staff including annual conferences and develops service delivery and staffing practices in relation to LGB&T issues. GMPT also has a local LGB&T support group that meets regularly.

Black Workers’ Forum (BWF)

All black staff members are eligible to be included in this group and are invited to take part. There are bi-monthly meetings and a study day every year. The aim is to provide a supportive environment for black workers in which staff, personal and service delivery issues can be discussed. Members of this forum are invited to play a consultative part in service delivery, planning and staffing matters

Disabled Workers Forum

Greater Manchester’s Disabled Workers Forum is a group for staff with disabilities that meets during working hours. As a group, it aims to promote the role of staff with disabilities within the service, share information, be involved in ongoing dialogue with management, and offer informal support to members
